IKEA is launching a new virtual store on Roblox, ‘The Co-Worker Game,’ on June 24. This innovative experience allows players to explore IKEA’s working world in a virtual setting. Applications for a limited number of paid roles in this virtual store are open from today until June 16.
Developed by the Swedish game design company The Gang, ‘The Co-Worker Game’ offers players a glimpse into IKEA’s unique career model, where non-linear career journeys and lateral moves across departments are common. This venture marks IKEA’s first significant foray into mainstream gaming, providing an immersive experience for users to engage with the brand in a new way.
Applications for the virtual co-worker roles opened on June 3 and will close on June 16. Ten successful applicants will have the chance to work paid shifts in the virtual store, performing tasks such as helping customers and moving between departments, similar to real-life IKEA employees.

Beyond the paid roles, the broader Roblox community, including gamers and IKEA fans, can explore and interact with the virtual IKEA store. Visitors can engage in various activities, such as working in IKEA’s Swedish Food Market and Bistro, organizing spaces with well-known IKEA products, and participating in exclusive in-game events and challenges.
Darren Taylor, Country People and Culture Manager for IKEA UK and Ireland, expressed enthusiasm for the project, stating, “We’re excited to be the first brand to launch paid work on Roblox to showcase how we do careers differently. Our co-workers can change roles, switch departments, and grow in any direction they choose, both in the game or in the real world.”
Shortlisted applicants will be interviewed via a virtual interview between June 14 and June 18. Successful candidates will be paid an hourly rate equivalent to an IKEA Co-Worker for their time in the game.
