  • Video-sharing platform Rumble has stated that it has sued Google for more than $1 billion over engaging in anticompetition practices.
  • The lawsuit alleges that Google has bought companies representing both buyers and sellers while running the digital advertising exchange platform that connects these parties.

Rumble, a cloud service provider and video-sharing platform, has announced that it has sued Google for violating the Sherman Antitrust Act in association with its digital advertising business. As per the suit, Rumble has sought over $1 billion in damages. Rumble has alleged that Google has been involved in exclusionary, anticompetitive practices for its ‘ad tech stack’ digital advertising products.

Rumble has stated that Google has monopolized the ad tech stack by buying companies representing both sellers and buyers while also controlling the exchange linking such parties. The suit consequently alleges a conflict of interest, allowing Google to extract anti-competitive fees for each transaction. The suit also alleges that Google links its products to each other, locking in sellers and buyers to its platform.

The suit also alleges that Google has entered a deal with Facebook to prevent competitive businesses from operating on its platform. Since Rumble offers several services in the same arena as Google’s businesses, Google’s business practices are said to be particularly harmful to Rumble.

This is not the first time Rumble has taken Google to court. The company first sued Google in 2021 for allegedly prioritizing YouTube videos in Google search results and for Google’s Android mobile OS. This case is still in its discovery stage. The new lawsuit brings attention to the continued concerns associated with big tech companies and their monopolistic practices in their domains.
