Spiceworks Turns On Google Apps and Rackspace for 1.4 Million IT Pros

World’s Largest Social Network for IT Becomes Channel for Cloud and Hosted Email Leaders

AUSTIN, Texas – April 6, 2011Spiceworks™, the world’s largest social business network for IT, today announced that its 1.4 million small business IT pros can now activate and manage Google Apps for Business™ and Rackspace Cloud Servers™ through Spiceworks. The new Spiceworks cloud services management features, available in the latest beta release of Spiceworks version 5.1, make it easier for IT pros to access and manage popular cloud and hosted services in the same way they manage on-premise technology.

According to a recent Spiceworks Voice of IT® market research report, IT pros at small and mid-sized businesses are earmarking 26 percent of their budgets for hosted/cloud services, with 40 percent planning to purchase, upgrade or renew hosted email services this year. Currently, the 1.4 million IT pros in Spiceworks manage more than 45 million hosted and on-premise email accounts.

“Whether you have laptops in your office or cloud servers in the sky, IT pros need a simple way to manage and buy the technology their employees and businesses depend on,” said Scott Abel, co-founder and CEO of Spiceworks. “By offering technology from Google and Rackspace, we’re taking a big step forward to make this happen for the 1.4 million IT pros who rely on Spiceworks for everything IT.”

Details on the new cloud services management capabilities available in the latest release of Spiceworks include:

  • Google Apps for Business Management – allows users to view and manage Google Apps for Business™, including Gmail™ and more – all from within Spiceworks. In addition, users can upgrade from Google Apps™ to Google Apps for Business and buy additional accounts through Spiceworks.
  • Rackspace Cloud Server & Hosted E-mail Management – IT pros can now provision and administer Rackspace Cloud Servers™ through Spiceworks. Since 2010, Spiceworks has also provided free management capabilities for Rackspace hosted e-mail. They include the ability to manage and monitor Rackspace hosted Exchange and IMAP/POP e-mail accounts. In addition, Spiceworks users can save up to 50 percent off their Rackspace hosted e-mail licenses.
  • Spiceworks Backup to the Rackspace Cloud – enables IT pros to automatically back up their Spiceworks installation to their Rackspace Cloud File account. This helps ensure a company’s Spiceworks settings can be easily recovered and restored to their original state as needed.
